TAIYUAN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) — North China's coal-rich Shanxi Province's raw coal output exceeded 756.44 million tonnes in January-July 2025, up 7.2 percent year on year, local authorities said.

According to the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics, coal production in the country's largest coal-producing region accounted for 27.2 percent of China's total coal production during the period.

By Thursday, the Datong (Shanxi Province) – Qinhuangdao (Hebei Province) railway had transported 9 billion tons of coal mined in Shanxi Province. Recall that this railway line is an important coal transportation corridor in northern China. The railway accounts for one-fifth of the total volume of coal transported by rail in the country.

The 653-kilometer railway was put into operation on December 28, 1988. It is designed to deliver coal from the provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi, and the western part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the eastern industrial centers of the country.

According to a report released by China's Ministry of Natural Resources, by the end of 2022, the country's total coal reserves were over 207 billion tons, of which about 48.3 billion tons were in Shanxi Province. -0-
