KYIV, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — Ukraine has returned 65 of its citizens who were held in the buffer zone on the Russian-Georgian border after being deported from Russia, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced on Facebook on Friday.
Among those returned are ten women and eight seriously ill people. All of them were at the Georgian checkpoint "Dariali", the ministers said.
They recalled that in the second half of June, Russian authorities began to sharply increase the number of Ukrainian citizens deported through “Daryali.” At the same time, official Kyiv has already publicly appealed to Moscow to send deported Ukrainians directly to the border of Ukraine, and not Georgia.
A. Sybiga and I. Klimenko also added that in previous months the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already organized the return of 44 Ukrainian citizens from the “Daryali” checkpoint. –0–
