BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend and preside over the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in north China's Tianjin from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1.
Xi Jinping will chair the 25th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council and the SCO Plus meeting, where he will deliver keynote speeches, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
During the summit, Xi Jinping will also hold a grand welcome banquet in honor of the leaders of various countries and senior officials of international organizations participating in the summit, as well as many bilateral events.
The upcoming summit will be one of the most important events for China this year in terms of head of state diplomacy and host diplomacy, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin said at a press briefing.
According to him, in delivering keynote speeches at the above-mentioned meeting and summit, Xi Jinping will expound China's new thoughts and views on the development of the "Shanghai Spirit" in the SCO, the organization's fulfillment of the mission that meets the needs of the times, and its satisfaction of the people's expectations.
According to him, Xi Jinping will also announce new measures and initiatives by China to support the high-quality development of the SCO and comprehensive cooperation within it, and will also propose new methods and ways for the SCO to constructively protect the international order formed after World War II and improve the global governance system.
Liu Bin said that Xi Jinping, together with the leaders of other SCO member states, will sign and publish a declaration, approve the SCO development strategy for the next 10 years, make statements on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and adopt a number of final documents on strengthening cooperation in the field of security, as well as in the economic and humanitarian spheres. -0-
