Section of the M-5 "Ural" highway, Chelyabinsk region.
Thanks to the federal project "Development of the Federal Network" of the national project "Infrastructure for Life", over 1.8 thousand km of new and renovated federal highways were put into operation in 2025. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
The total length of federal highways is more than 66.4 thousand km, of which 61.4 thousand km are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Road Agency, 5 thousand km are under the trust management of the State Company "Avtodor".
"Federal highways are a significant element of the country's transport framework. They ensure the connectivity of territories, contribute to the increase of cargo flows, the development of transport and logistics corridors, and the improvement of transport accessibility. This year, under the national project "Infrastructure for Life", after repair, construction and reconstruction, over 1.8 thousand km of federal roads have already been put into operation. We are doing a lot of work to form a modern and reliable road and transport infrastructure that connects regions and ensures comfort and safety of movement for many years to come," said Marat Khusnullin.
According to the Presidential Decree on the country's national development goals, by 2030 at least 85% of federal highways should be in good condition.
"In 2025, thanks to the national project "Infrastructure for Life", we plan to commission more than 4.7 thousand km of federal roads, of which 4.6 thousand km – after repair, including major repairs, 151.5 km – after construction and reconstruction. Work is actively continuing to strengthen the country's transport arteries, as well as the creation of seamless logistics corridors. We pay special attention to the development of the international transport corridor "North – South", the goal of which is to improve the efficiency of transportation and strengthen the connection of regions both within the country and with international transport routes," said Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin.
The successful implementation of large-scale road projects and, in many cases, the early completion of construction and installation work is the result of unprecedented support from the President and the Government.
Eastern bypass of Novosibirsk, Novosibirsk region.
"An equally important aspect of the federal network development remains systemic financial support. This year, 567 billion rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for these purposes, which demonstrates serious state support and the importance of this area for the entire transport system of the country. As before, special attention is paid to strict control over the expenditure of funds, the progress of work and compliance with established deadlines. This approach is the key to the effective implementation of the federal project and ensures the fulfillment of all the tasks set before us," emphasized Igor Kostyuchenko, Deputy Head of the Federal Road Agency.
Thus, in the Chelyabinsk region, after reconstruction, a 14-kilometer section of the M-5 "Ural" highway from the 1564th to the 1578th km was put into operation. The road was widened from two to four lanes, a barrier fence was installed and a new surface was laid. This will increase the capacity of the section from 11 thousand to 30 thousand cars per day. In parallel, work continues on other sections of the highway, including the construction of a bypass of the city of Sim, which is planned to be completed in 2026.
In July, the first 12-kilometer section of the first stage of the eastern bypass was opened in Novosibirsk Oblast with four lanes, interchanges and bridges. Work is underway on the remaining part of the stage, in particular on the bridge over the Inya River, which is planned to be completed by the end of September together with the introduction of the next 1.7-kilometer section.
In the Murmansk region, construction of a two-level interchange at the 20th km of the approach to Severomorsk continues; the facility is estimated to be 80% complete. Drilling and blasting operations have already been completed on a complex geological site in the amount of more than 240 thousand cubic meters to remove rock.
