PHNOM PENH/BANGKOK, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — The commanders of the military regions of Cambodia and Thailand on Friday reaffirmed their firm commitment to the ceasefire recently reached by the two countries, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense said in a press release.

According to a press release, the confirmation was made during an extraordinary meeting of the Cambodian-Thai General Committee on Border Issues between Cambodia's 5th Military Region and Thailand's 1st Military Region in Thailand's Sa Kaeo Province.

“The parties reaffirmed their firm commitment to implementing the ceasefire and the 13-point consensus, further strengthening bilateral relations and restoring normalcy in the border areas,” the press release said.

It was also noted that the parties agreed to hold the next meeting within one month or at another convenient time, with Cambodia acting as the host.

Thailand's temporary center for border security with Cambodia said on social media that the two sides had agreed to implement the 13-point consensus.

According to the center, the parties also discussed other important issues, including agreeing to conduct joint humanitarian demining and jointly combat transnational crime.

In addition, the parties agreed to create a coordination group and a border committee of villages to assist in resolving problems at the local level.

Cambodia and Thailand have agreed on the details of a ceasefire deal on August 7 in Malaysia. –0–
