HAIKOU, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — An exhibition titled "Masterpieces of Contemporary Russian Art Masters" is being held at the Hainan Provincial Museum in the capital city of Haikou from July 18 to October 8 as part of the China-Russia Cross Culture Years.
The exhibition, organized by the Union of Artists of Russia, presents 5 sculptures and 30 oil paintings by 10 Russian masters of contemporary art.
“The exhibition is dedicated to contemporary Russian art, not the usual classics,” said the exhibition’s curator Zhu Yufeng, adding that the aim of the exhibition is to introduce the Chinese audience to the richer and more vibrant contemporary Russian art.
"Art knows no boundaries. Both Chinese and Russian art seem like two parallel mountain ranges that will eventually converge at the top of world art," Zhu Yufeng noted.
Director of the Hainan Provincial Museum Zhu Lei said the exhibition uses art as a bridge to strengthen humanitarian ties between the two countries and add cultural momentum to the construction of the free trade port on Hainan Island. -0-
