LHASA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Under the instruction of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping, members of a central government delegation on Thursday visited officials and residents in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and head of the central government delegation, attended the event.

During a visit to Lhasa leaders and representatives of various ethnic groups and social circles in the city, Wang Huning called for efforts to properly address the four major tasks of ensuring stability, promoting development, protecting the ecological environment and strengthening the border, so as to make new contributions to promoting lasting peace, stability and high-quality development in Xijiang.

Visiting patriotic figures from Xizang's religious circles at the Jokhang Monastery, Wang Huning expressed the hope that they would resolutely safeguard the unity of the motherland and inter-ethnic solidarity and actively participate in building a socialist, modernized new Xizang.

The delegation members also learned about the development of higher education at Xizang University and visited one of the local parks to inspect the afforestation and landscaping work.

Wang Huning stressed the need to focus on ensuring and improving people's well-being, promoting employment and income growth, and steadily advancing common prosperity.

The delegation arrived in Xizang to participate in events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xizang Autonomous Region. –0–
