BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — The first domestic 8K film "Shenzhou 13," shot on China's Tiangong space station, will premiere on Sept. 5, China Media Group (CMG) said on Thursday, releasing an official trailer.

The film uses footage shot by Shenzhou 13 crew members Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu and follows the crew's life during their first six-month mission in orbit, CMG said.

Told primarily from the perspective of female astronaut Wang Yaping, the film showcases previously unseen cosmic expanses and many unknown details of everyday life on board the space station. It is the country's first space film project to be shot using 8K ultra-high-definition cameras made entirely in China.

The creative team, working with aerospace engineers, overcame significant challenges, including rocket vibration testing, space environment testing, and adapting equipment to safely charge and store energy on the space station. Specialized filming equipment was delivered to the space station on the Tianzhou cargo spacecraft in 2021.

The Shenzhou-13 crew departed for a six-month mission aboard the core module of China's Tiangong space station on October 16, 2021. During their mission, the Chinese astronauts conducted two spacewalks and gave two live-streamed scientific lectures from space. The mission marked the completion of China's verification of key technologies used on the space station. -0-
