BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — The 13th China-Russia International Ophthalmology Forum was held in Harbin, capital of Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, this month.

The purpose of the forum was to exchange knowledge and experience of colleagues from China and Russia, discuss issues of technological innovation in the field of eye health protection and strengthen cooperation in the field of ophthalmology, writes the Heilongjiang Daily.

The forum was attended by about 50 leading specialists from both countries: scientists, doctors, teachers of medical universities, developers of medical technology and equipment. In addition to delivering thematic reports, they also conducted an analysis of difficult-to-treat cases of diseases and training in microsurgical operations.

One of the main outcomes of the forum was the joint release by the participants of the New Plan for Cooperation in Eye Health along the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to enhance technological innovation, train qualified professionals and build a multi-level and multi-sector cooperation network to ensure that ophthalmic knowledge and technology can benefit the wider society.

The forum was organized by the China Association for the Transformation and Promotion of Rehabilitation Technology, Harbin Medical University (HMU), the Chinese-Russian Association of Medical Universities, and the Ophthalmology Clinic of the First Hospital at HMU. -0-
