KABUL, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul on Wednesday.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, said that China, as a neighbor and partner, congratulates Afghanistan on its new achievements in national construction.

The Chinese Foreign Minister pointed out that China pursues a friendly policy towards all Afghan people and has always been at the forefront among leading powers and neighboring countries in developing relations with Afghanistan.

China will continue to support the Afghan government in maintaining stable governance, focusing on development, resolutely combating terrorism, advancing good-neighborliness and friendship, and achieving lasting peace and stability, he said.

Wang Yi expressed the hope that Afghanistan will continue to make every effort to combat the East Turkestan Islamic Movement so as to remove obstacles to the deep development of China-Afghanistan relations and inject impetus into them.

He added that China is willing to work with Afghanistan to develop friendship, deepen political mutual trust, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, agriculture, poverty alleviation, water conservancy, connectivity, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

A. H. Muttaqi, for his part, expressed gratitude to China for its valuable support to Afghanistan in countering external interference and highly appreciated China’s important contribution to maintaining regional peace and development.

The Afghan FM stressed that friendship with China is the cornerstone of his country's foreign policy, assuring that Afghanistan attaches great importance to China's security concerns and will never allow any person or force to use Afghan territory to engage in activities that harm China.

Afghanistan is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as security and counter-terrorism to jointly ensure lasting peace and stability in the region, concluded A.H. Muttaqi. –0–
