OTTAWA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) — The Canada Labour Relations Board (CIRB) has declared an ongoing strike by 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants illegal, the carrier said Monday.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) leadership has been ordered to instruct its members to return to work, a press release said.
Following Sunday's hearing, the CIRB also ordered union members to cease all illegal activity and return to work, the report said.
The union and its officers must provide public written notice to all members by 12 p.m. Monday Ottawa time, the CIRB decision said.
Canada's Labour Minister Patty Hajdu said on Aug. 16 that she had used her powers under the Canada Labour Code to direct the CIRB to mediate the dispute between Air Canada and CUPE and end the strike that began Saturday morning. –0–
