LOS ANGELES, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) — Two police officers were killed and another was wounded in a shooting that occurred in the U.S. state of Utah on Sunday evening, local media reported.
According to local media reports, the Brigham City Police Department issued a press release on Monday stating that officers from the Tremonton-Garland Police Department responded to a suspected domestic violence incident in Tremonton after an unknown person called 911 multiple times and hung up.
It is noted that the man came out with a firearm and shot the first police officer who arrived. The second police officer, who rushed to help, was also killed by the attacker's shots.
The man also fired multiple shots at the car of a Box Elder County sheriff's deputy who was dispatched to assist Tremonton police, wounding him and his service dog.
According to media reports, eyewitnesses managed to convince the criminal to lay down his arms, after which he was detained by other police officers at the scene.
In a post on social media site X, Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the incident a “horrible and tragic night,” expressing grief “for the brave law enforcement officers who lost their lives.” –0–
