On August 17, the All-Russian student expedition "Sails of Victory" started in the Tver region. It was organized by the Tver State Technical University and the Student League of Sports Tourism with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. The partners of the event are the North Caucasus Federal University, the Russian Student Sports Union, the Association for the Development of Youth Active Tourism, the Federation of Sports Tourism of Russia and the Tver Region, the Tver regional branch of the Union of Mechanical Engineers of Russia, the Russian Geographical Society, the Tver State Technical University tourist club "Azimut" and others. Tourists from 22 Russian universities, representing 16 regions of the country, including polytechnics, are taking part in the expedition.
The expedition route runs from the source of the Volga River to the city of Tver and is 420 kilometers. The expedition will take place in two stages: from the source of the Volga River to the city of Rzhev (August 17-24) and from the city of Rzhev to the city of Tver (August 23-30). Participants will have to cover this distance mainly under sail or by oars.
The Sails of Victory expedition is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and an important part of it is visiting places that are historically significant for the history of the Tver region and all of Russia.
Participants of the expedition will test themselves in a water trip along the Upper Volga, visit the settlements of Peno, Selizharovo, Rzhev, Zubtsov, Staritsa and honor the memory of the fallen heroes of the Great Patriotic War, visiting memorials and the sites of the fiercest battles in the Tver region.
The island of Zosima and Savvatiy Solovetsky on Lake Echilog – during the Great Patriotic War, the island was in the frontline zone and was used by Soviet troops as an observation post, the base of partisans and a transshipment point for the evacuation of the wounded were located here.

The Rzhevsky memorial to the Soviet soldier is one of the largest monuments dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, in Russia, erected in 2020 near the village of Khoroshevo 8 km from Rzhev, on the site of fierce battles of the Battle of Rzhev.
Poklonnaya Mountain in Zubtsovo is one of the key heights on the western bank of the Vasuza River, which played an important role in the battles of 1941-1943. The slopes of the worship of the mountain became a place of mass burials – thousands of Soviet fighters died here.
