BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) — China's rail freight volumes saw steady growth in the first seven months of 2025, the China State Railway Corporation said Monday, citing more efficient rail system operation and improved services.

Over the seven months, 2.33 billion tons of cargo were transported, which is 3.3 percent more than the same period last year, with an average daily loading of up to 183.3 thousand railcars (an increase of 4.1 percent), according to the corporation’s data.

In particular, the volume of coal transported amounted to 1.19 billion tons; mineral construction materials and grain were transported, respectively, 13.6 percent and 12.7 percent more than a year ago.

International freight transportation also showed stable results. Thus, 8,526 freight trains were sent in the Central Asian direction, which is 23.2 percent more than a year earlier. The China-Laos railway transported 3.44 million tons of cross-border freight, an increase of 6.4 percent.

The corporation announced its readiness to further accelerate the development of a modern railway logistics system, deepen the market-oriented reform of railway freight transportation, and improve the quality and efficiency of logistics services. -0-
