BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — Chinese premium auto brand Hongqi has been appointed as the official supplier of official cars to transport foreign dignitaries during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1.
According to information from the mobile version of the Beijing Daily newspaper, the handover ceremony of official cars for the Tianjin SCO Summit was held in Tianjin recently, which represent three models – the luxurious updated Hongqi H9 sedan, the luxury Hongqi HQ9 minivan and the premium Hongqi Guoyue minibus.
Hongqi was the first Chinese premium auto brand to win up to 2 million loyal customers and led the domestic passenger car market in brand value for 14 consecutive years, which rose to 141.07 billion yuan (about 19.77 billion US dollars) in 2025. In the first half of 2025, Hongqi brand sales exceeded 225 thousand units, an increase of 11.8 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
Hongqi is currently accelerating efforts to implement its “ALL IN new energy” strategy, which was launched in 2023 and aims to transition to producing exclusively new energy vehicles.
It is worth noting that the history of cooperation between Hongqi and major SCO events dates back to 2015, when Hongqi H7 and Hongqi L5 were first appointed as official service cars at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO Member States in Zhengzhou. -0-
