URUMQI, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — An intangible cultural heritage exhibition opened in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Friday, highlighting achievements in intangible cultural heritage preservation, inheritance and cooperation.

The exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, will run until August 19.

The event featured 435 intangible cultural heritage items and invited 383 traditional culture custodians from Xinjiang and 25 other provincial-level regions across the country, including 19 involved in providing “targeted assistance” to Xinjiang.

The local landmark Yuetegan /Yotkan/ ancient town in Hotan Prefecture is the main venue for the event. Branch sites in Hotan Prefecture also host exhibitions and offer interactive experiences related to intangible cultural heritage.

Since 1997, China has been implementing “targeted aid” programs in Xinjiang, sending financial, technical and personnel assistance there from other regions of the country. -0-
