COLOMBO, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka on Wednesday held a ceremony to award 30 local students with Chinese government scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Sri Lanka's Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Seneviratne praised the Chinese government's continued support for the development of education in the island nation through scholarship programmes.

This year's scholarships cover a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, medicine and agriculture, providing vital support to talented Sri Lankans in a variety of fields, he said.

The official expressed hope that the students would study hard in China and become bridges of cooperation between the two countries upon their return.

Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong warmly congratulated the students who received the scholarship and encouraged them to cherish the opportunity to study in China, gain a deeper understanding of the 5,000-year-old Chinese civilization and broaden their international horizons, strive to use their knowledge to promote the development of Sri Lanka, become ambassadors of friendship between China and Sri Lanka and help write a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. –0–
