BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin on Friday criticized the United States for trying to "justify" Japan's aggression and war crimes during World War II, calling it "a serious insult to historical justice and disregard for the feelings of those who suffered from Japanese aggression."
“During World War II, the Japanese fascists committed heinous crimes and caused untold suffering to people around the world, including Americans. The U.S. probably has ‘amnesia’ about that period of history,” Jiang Bin said when asked to comment on a U.S. State Department statement that 80 years ago the U.S. and Japan “put an end to the devastating war in the Pacific region.”
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. China calls on the United States to abandon geopolitical calculations, take a correct historical stance on World War II, and join the international community in safeguarding the post-war world order, Jiang Bin concluded. -0-
