KUNMING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — The three sides reached a consensus that Cambodia and Thailand will speed up the restoration of normal ties at a friendly tea party hosted by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for Cambodian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhon and Thai Foreign Minister Marit Sangyampong in Anning, southwest China's Yunnan Province, on Thursday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

As noted, Cambodia and Thailand will make efforts to strengthen contacts and exchanges, quickly resume normal relations, and restore and strengthen mutual trust.

It is emphasized that China supports Cambodia and Thailand in faithfully implementing the agreements reached at the recent bilateral leaders' meeting and the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Committee on Border Issues, in early restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas and in realizing a long-term ceasefire.

At the same time, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China also supports the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in continuing to play its active role in ensuring the overall cohesion of ASEAN member countries.

It was hoped that Cambodia and Thailand would continue to create favourable conditions and work towards the speedy restoration of normalcy in the border areas, meeting the aspirations of border residents on both sides.

It also said that China expects to continue to play a constructive role in accordance with the wishes of Cambodia and Thailand, including providing support and assistance in the implementation of activities agreed upon by the two countries, such as demining designated border areas. –0–
