KABUL, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) — Afghan security forces have foiled a planned attack by Daesh (Arabic name for the Islamic State) militants in the eastern province of Parwan, the Interior Ministry said Thursday evening.

Security officials launched an overnight operation in the Barik Ab area of Bagram district against a Daesh cell, suspected of planning an attack on Friday during Victory Day celebrations marking the fourth anniversary of the defeat of US-led foreign forces, ministry spokesman Abdul Matin Kani said on his social media page X.

During the operation, security forces detained a member of the group and seized a vehicle containing three missiles intended for the attack, he said.

Afghan security forces have recently stepped up their counter-terrorism efforts by increasing the number of checkpoints and putting them on high alert to ensure the safe conduct of nationwide victory anniversary celebrations. –0–
