ISLAMABAD, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday congratulated the people on the 78th anniversary of national independence, calling for unity, economic stability and efforts to safeguard national sovereignty.

In his message, Sharif paid tribute to Pakistan's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal and the leaders of the independence movement, praising their vision and determination to make the dream of independence a reality.

He said that over the past 78 years, Pakistan has faced numerous challenges but has also achieved significant success in various fields including economy, sports, defence and technology.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan's commitment to peaceful coexistence and resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Like military strength, a stable economy is necessary to protect sovereignty, he stressed, calling on all political parties and all sectors of society to join forces to achieve national progress. –0–
