BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) — The 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) has been a period of strong growth for China's data processing industry, with notable gains in market size and digital infrastructure, official data showed Thursday.

The sector's volume reached 5.86 trillion yuan (about $821.45 billion) by the end of 2024, up 117 percent from the end of 2020, Liu Lehong, head of China's National Data Administration, said at a press conference on Thursday.

He noted that by the end of last year, the number of domestic data-related enterprises exceeded 400 thousand. High growth rates in this sector are expected to continue in the coming years.

Meanwhile, China's digital infrastructure has made significant progress, taking a leading position in the world in terms of scale and technological advancement.

By the end of June 2025, the country will have built 4.55 million 5G base stations, and the number of gigabit broadband users will reach 226 million, the official said.

Currently, China's computing power ranks second in the world, providing reliable support for the country's socio-economic development, he concluded.
