BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management on Tuesday jointly allocated 170 million yuan (about 23.8 million U.S. dollars) to support disaster relief efforts in seven regions hit by recent natural disasters.

Since August 9, heavy rains have hit a wide area from Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality in southwest China to Jiangsu and Anhui Provinces in the east, causing floods and geological disasters.

The allocated funds are intended to support Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Gansu provinces and Chongqing city in their efforts to carry out emergency rescue and disaster relief work, focusing on search and rescue, relocation and accommodation of affected people, identification and elimination of hidden threats and hazards associated with secondary disasters, and reconstruction of damaged residential buildings, the official statement said. -0-
