GENEVA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — The United Nations on Monday condemned the killing of six Palestinian journalists in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City on Sunday as a "serious violation of international humanitarian law."

“Israel must respect and protect all civilians, including journalists,” the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said on social media X, calling for “immediate, safe and unimpeded access” to Gaza for all journalists.

According to the department, at least 242 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

Al Jazeera on Monday condemned the Israel Defense Forces for killing five of its correspondents in an airstrike on a tent outside Gaza City's Al-Shifa Hospital on Sunday. The freelance journalist wounded in the airstrike died early Monday, bringing the death toll to six, according to Gaza's civil defense and hospital officials. –0–
