Moscow, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and Supreme Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un held a telephone conversation during which they reaffirmed their commitment to further developing relations of friendship, good-neighborliness and cooperation between the two countries, the Kremlin press service reported on Tuesday.
“Both sides confirmed their commitment to the further development of relations of friendship, good-neighborliness and cooperation in all areas in line with the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and the DPRK concluded in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024,” the statement said.
During the conversation, V. Putin congratulated Kim Jong-un on the upcoming national holiday, which is celebrated on August 15 as the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
Kim Jong-un, for his part, emphasized that the DPRK considers this holiday to be a common one and remembers the role of the Red Army in the fight against the invaders, the report states.
The Russian President highly praised the support provided by Pyongyang during the liberation of the Kursk region, as well as the courage, heroism and dedication shown by the DPRK military personnel.
In addition, the Russian leader shared information with Kim Jong-un in the context of upcoming talks with US President Donald Trump. The leaders of the two states agreed on further personal contacts. –0–
