BAGHDAD, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service has detained 11 militants of the Islamic State (IS) group in a series of operations in several provinces of the country, the agency said on Tuesday.

According to the statement from the service, its units, based on accurate intelligence, carried out a number of operations during which suspects were detained in the provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah and Salah ad-Din.

In addition, anti-terrorist forces discovered and destroyed dozens of ISIS hideouts, as well as cleared and disabled several underground passages and a cave where explosives were stored.

Iraq declared victory over ISIS in 2017, but remnants of the group continue to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians in cities, deserts and remote areas. –0–
