ISTANBUL, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — One person was killed and 29 others were injured when a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey's northwestern province of Balikesir on Sunday, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said at a press conference in Balikesir.
According to him, an 81-year-old citizen has died. None of the injured are in life-threatening conditions. Search and rescue operations have already been completed.
The minister said a total of 16 buildings had collapsed in the countryside, 12 of which were abandoned structures.
The earthquake, which struck at 19:53 local time, caused widespread panic across the region. –0–
