Vladivostok, August 11 /Xinhua/ — Over the past week, 359 aftershocks have been registered in Kamchatka, RIA Novosti reported on Monday, citing the head of the regional Russian Emergencies Ministry.

According to the report, 54 aftershocks occurred in Kamchatka over the past 24 hours, six of which were felt in populated areas. The strength of the tremors ranged from 2 to 4 points.

There were 10 ash emissions on Klyuchevskoy volcano in a week, and 6 on Krasheninnikov volcano. The activity of Bezymyanny, Shiveluch, Klyuchevskoy, and Karymskoy volcanoes continues.

The strongest earthquake since 1952, measuring 8.8, occurred in Kamchatka on July 30. Activity has now been recorded at seven volcanoes in the region. Scientists believe the earthquakes have awakened some of them. –0–
