UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the killing of six Palestinian journalists in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City on Sunday, his spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Monday.
“These recent killings highlight the extreme risks journalists continue to face when covering this ongoing war,” Dujarric said at a daily press briefing.
According to him, the UN Secretary General called for an independent and impartial investigation into these killings.
S. Dujarric recalled that at least 242 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since the beginning of the war.
A. Guterres stressed that journalists and media workers must be respected and protected and be able to carry out their work without intimidation or threats of harm, the official representative added. –0–
