HARBIN, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — Giant panda twins safely arrived in Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, from Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Monday and were officially welcomed into the giant panda pavilion on Taiyangdao Island.
The 8-year-old giant panda bears, named Zhishi and Zhima, both hail from the Chengdu Base of Giant Panda Breeding and Research in Sichuan Province. Upon their arrival in Harbin, they were greeted with great honors – a “water salute.”
The relevant work on the introduction of giant pandas began in October 2024. As one of the key projects for the construction of ecological civilization and the integration of culture and tourism in Harbin, the Sun Island Giant Panda Pavilion will create a new platform for the development of educational tours in the field of rare animals and ecology.
The Sun Island Giant Panda Pavilion is currently in countdown mode until its opening, and the exact opening date will be determined based on the giant pandas' adaptation to the new environment. -0-
