CANBERRA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — Australia will formally recognize a Palestinian state at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament in Canberra alongside Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Mr Albanese said Australia recognised the "right" of the Palestinian people to "their own state".
“A two-state solution is humanity’s only hope to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and end the conflict, suffering and hunger in Gaza,” he said.
E. Albanese said the cabinet on Monday morning approved a proposal to recognize Palestinian statehood as part of a "coordinated global effort" to achieve a two-state solution for two peoples. -0-
