BEIRUT, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Six Lebanese army soldiers were killed and an unknown number of others were wounded on Saturday when an explosion rocked a weapons depot during an inspection and dismantling operation carried out by an army unit in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre.
An army statement said "an explosion occurred inside the warehouse, killing six soldiers, according to preliminary information."
The statement added that “an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.”
Lebanon's National News Agency reported that ammunition left over from "Israeli aggression" in the south of the country detonated while an engineering unit was clearing some of the shells in the area. -0-
