ALMATY, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Press Secretary of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) Ruslan Zheldybay said that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev considers the peace agreement signed in Washington between Azerbaijan and Armenia a historically important achievement. This was reported on Saturday by the Kazinform news agency, citing the official website of the Kazakh president.
The document put an end to the long-standing military conflict between the two states and opened the way to the establishment of diplomatic relations and the development of cooperation between them on the basis of lasting peace.
The President of Kazakhstan noted that Kazakhstan had also made its contribution to achieving such important agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia by proposing the city of Almaty as a venue for negotiations at the level of foreign ministers on key parameters of the peace treaty. Ministerial negotiations took place there.
Earlier, the President of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of the United States signed a joint declaration in Washington on the peaceful settlement of relations between Baku and Yerevan. –0–
