UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) — The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Saturday over Israel's plan to take control of Gaza City. According to the Security Council's agenda, the meeting will take place on Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. local time.
The meeting was called after Israel announced a plan on Friday to take control of Gaza City.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Israel's decision was a dangerous escalation.
“The Secretary-General is deeply alarmed by the Israeli government’s decision to ‘take control of Gaza City.’ This decision represents a dangerous escalation of the conflict and threatens to worsen the already catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinians and could put the lives of many more, including the remaining hostages, at risk,” Stephanie Tremblay, deputy spokesperson for the UN chief, said in a statement. –0–
