LISBON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Portuguese exports to the United States fell 39.4 percent year-on-year in June amid expectations of tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump, final data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) showed on Friday.
It is also noted that the country's trade deficit in 2024 reached 28.35 billion euros, an increase of 540 million euros compared to the previous year.
In June 2024, exports to the United States amounted to 557 million euros, but over the year this figure fell by 219 million to 338 million euros.
On a quarterly basis, Portuguese exports to the US fell by 13.9 percent in April-June, from 1.42 billion euros to 1.22 billion.
D. Trump first announced tariffs on a number of countries in April, and their introduction was postponed several times for negotiations. The final date was set for August 7.
