KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Cambodia and Thailand signed a ceasefire agreement on Thursday, officials from the two countries said after an extraordinary meeting of the General Committee on Border Issues in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur.
According to the Cambodian side, detailed discussions were held on the ceasefire regime, agreements were reached on the establishment of a regional monitoring mechanism, the restoration of mutual trust and the treatment of captured soldiers in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The Thai side said the two countries had reached an agreement and agreed to maintain communication and resolve issues through a bilateral mechanism, and ASEAN member countries would be allowed to monitor the ceasefire.
In addition, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to hold the next extraordinary meeting of the committee within a month. –0–
