CHENGDU, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin announced the opening of the 12th World Games at a ceremony at the Tianfu International Convention Center in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Thursday evening.
The World Games, a multi-sport event featuring sports that are not or not yet on the Olympic program, are being held for the first time on the Chinese mainland.
A truly historic event was the torch relay of the Chengdu World Games on July 26 at the iconic Sanxingdui Ruins Museum, the cultural “heart” of Sichuan Province. A total of 120 torchbearers took part in this memorable event. –0–
