Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev held a meeting of the Coordination Committee for the support of environmental and nature conservation projects, during which he summed up the results of the first grant competition of the Presidential Fund.

"Applications for the selection were received from all regions, and in total there are more than 1.6 thousand of them. This is an absolute record for the number of projects ever submitted in Russia for environmental competitions. I would like to thank our citizens and public organizations for their caring attitude to the nature of their native country. Such an active position indicates the formation of an environmentally responsible consciousness in people. We expect that this effect will only increase year after year," said Dmitry Patrushev.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that the total volume of the grant fund annually amounts to 1 billion rubles from the federal budget. At the same time, in the future it is planned to attract extra-budgetary funds.

A total of 164 projects became winners. Among the selected initiatives, 45 are aimed at preserving rare animal species, 37 are aimed at monitoring biodiversity, another 35 projects involve developing ecotourism in specially protected natural areas, 12 are aimed at preserving the ecosystems of the Arctic zone, and 35 initiatives are educational events.

The projects' directions are varied. Thus, the selection participants plan to conduct educational expeditions to Lake Baikal and the Arctic zone, identify pollution and clean up the coast using remote sensing technologies and artificial intelligence, build a hospital for dolphins, and create eco-cartoons.

"Participation in the competition will help to develop a caring attitude towards nature among citizens, and especially among the younger generation. In addition, the initiatives are closely linked to the objectives of the national project "Environmental Well-Being". We have consciously chosen this approach in order to involve the public in its implementation, to give each participant in the competition the opportunity to contribute to achieving the national goal," the Deputy Prime Minister added.

Dmitry Patrushev instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, together with the fund, to ensure synergy between the activities of the national project "Ecological Well-Being" and grant recipients. People's initiatives should become an additional value in the indicators of the national project.

The selected projects will begin to be implemented as early as September 1 of this year. The competition will continue in 2026. The first stage of accepting applications will start in September, and the projects are planned to be implemented in March of next year.

The Presidential Fund for Ecological and Nature Conservation Projects was registered on March 3, 2025. It was created in accordance with the decree of the President of Russia. The main grant areas include the protection of rare and endangered animal species, as well as their habitats, the study and monitoring of biodiversity, information and educational projects in the field of protecting wild animals, unique and relict ecosystems, as well as plant species listed in the Red Books.
