KYIV, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — To establish lasting peace in Ukraine, it is necessary to organize negotiations at the level of state leaders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram on Thursday.
According to him, the parties should decide on the date of such a meeting and its agenda.
V. Zelensky noted that on Wednesday, after talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump's special envoy Steven Witkoff, he held a joint telephone conversation with the head of the White House and European leaders. V. Zelensky also spoke separately with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
The Ukrainian leader added that later on Thursday he plans to hold further contacts to make real progress towards peace and guarantee Ukraine's independence. In particular, he will talk with the German Chancellor, representatives of France and Italy. In addition, there will be communications at the level of national security advisers.
The talks between V. Putin and S. Witkoff took place in Moscow on Wednesday. Following their conclusion, the media reported that D. Trump wants to meet personally with the Russian president next week and then hold trilateral talks with the participation of the Ukrainian and Russian leaders. –0–
