NEW DELHI, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — A senior Naxalite commander was killed in a fierce gunfight with police in India's eastern Jharkhand state, local officials said Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Gumla district, located about 71 km southwest of the state capital Ranchi.
A reward of INR 1.5 million (US$17,095) was offered for the slain commander, police said. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene of the shootout. –0–
