LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — A medical transport plane crashed and caught fire in the Navajo Nation of Arizona, U.S., on Tuesday afternoon, killing all four people on board.
The small twin-propeller medical transport plane crashed and caught fire around 12:40 p.m. local time (1940 GMT) Tuesday near Chinle Airport, the Navajo Nation Police Department said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Police said the plane was en route to pick up a patient at a nearby hospital at the time of the incident and all four people killed in the crash were non-local medical workers.
“These individuals dedicated their lives to saving others, and their loss is deeply felt throughout the Navajo Nation,” Navajo Nation President Boo Van Nygren wrote on social media.
“This is a tragic loss for the families of those on board, as well as the medical and emergency services community,” the Navajo Nation Police Department added. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The Navajo Nation is the largest Native American reservation in the United States, spanning Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. –0–
