PHNOM PENH, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Thailand's legal action against Cambodia on the issue of violating sovereignty by using military force is groundless, politically motivated and without foundation, Cham Soonri, State Secretary and spokesman for the Cambodian Foreign Ministry, said at a press conference on Wednesday.

According to him, such legal measures are completely baseless and represent a deliberate attempt to divert the attention of both domestic and international public opinion from Thailand's hostile policy towards Cambodia. "The accusations underlying the legal actions are baseless, politically motivated and have no credible basis," the diplomat said.

Cham Soonri noted that Cambodia firmly rejects the Thai claims and reiterates that it did not initiate hostile actions. Cambodia remains committed to peace, he said, adding that despite ongoing provocations, the country continues to abide by the ceasefire agreement.

“Cambodia urges Thailand to stop its disinformation campaign and/or hostile actions and return to constructive dialogue in the spirit of peaceful coexistence and ASEAN solidarity,” Cham Soonri stressed.

On Tuesday, Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Vechayachai instructed relevant agencies to prepare legal documents to file criminal and civil lawsuits against Cambodia at the national and international levels. He accused the neighboring country of using military force to violate Thailand's sovereignty, which resulted in significant loss of life and property among Thai civilians and military personnel.

On July 24, armed clashes broke out on a disputed section of the border between Cambodia and Thailand. The two ASEAN member states agreed to a ceasefire on July 28, which went into effect at midnight that same day. –0–
