BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Thanks to its unique geographical location and ever-improving health service system, the border city of Suifenhe in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has seen a boom in cross-border medical and health services this summer, focusing on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), injecting new impetus into the city's development.
As reported on the city government website, on August 4, more than 20 tourists from Vladivostok visited the Suifenhe People's Hospital, where they tried out various TCM procedures. Some chose acupuncture to treat leg and lower back pain, others preferred vacuum cupping to eliminate eczema, and still others went for massage sessions to treat cervical pain. Professional massage therapists skillfully helped tourists relieve tension in the neck area. Russian tourist Lisa shared her impressions with us: “We tried coffee ice cream with TCM herbs, and the doctor gave me a neck massage. Very professional, just wonderful!”

Liu Simin, head of the TCM service and medicine export base at Suifenhe People's Hospital, said: "The newly opened TCM nutrition restaurant and herbal bar are also very popular with Russian tourists. The nutrition restaurant has developed special prescription formulas with adjusted dosages of herbs based on the physiological characteristics of Russians and the current weather conditions. Russian tourists were delighted with the taste and effect of the dishes."
According to statistics, the number of Russian tourists entering Suifenhe for medical and health services has increased significantly since the beginning of this year.
