BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday said it will extend its investigation into imported beef due to the complexity of the case.
According to the ministry, the investigation into the imported beef began on December 27, 2024. Now the investigation period for this case has been extended by three months to November 26, 2025.
After the case was initiated, the department conducted an investigation in accordance with the procedure established by law, collecting evidence through questionnaires, hearings and on-site inspections, and heard the views of all parties concerned to ensure the objectivity and fairness of the investigation, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce.
The case attracted widespread attention from governments, industry associations and producers in countries and regions that exported beef to China, as well as Chinese industry associations, livestock farmers and importers, who submitted a large amount of data and written materials.
The investigation agency will thoroughly examine all the materials submitted and make a thorough assessment in accordance with the law on whether the case meets the legal conditions for applying protective measures, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce.
Due to the large volume of investigative work and the complexity of the case, the investigative body decided to extend the investigation period for this case in accordance with the laws of the PRC and the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The investigation agency will continue to advance the investigation in accordance with the law and make an objective and fair decision based on the investigation results, the MOC spokesperson said, adding that China will maintain communication with all parties concerned to jointly safeguard a healthy and stable international trade environment. -0-
