BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — China is willing to work with Brazil to deepen bilateral cooperation and effectively address external uncertainties through stable and complementary state-to-state cooperation, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, said in a telephone conversation with Celso Amorim, special adviser to the Brazilian president on international affairs, on Wednesday.

Under the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, China and Brazil are working together to build a community with a shared future for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet, he said. This reflects the shared vision and sense of responsibility of the two major developing countries in promoting a multipolar world, upholding international rules and order, and safeguarding global justice, Wang added.

He stressed that China firmly supports Brazil in safeguarding the right to development and opposing the bullying practice of arbitrary tariffs. As the largest developing countries in the Eastern and Western hemispheres respectively, China and Brazil always support each other, maintain close coordination, and firmly safeguard both their legitimate interests and the common interests of countries in the Global South, Wang said.

According to S. Amorim, Brazil intends to deepen cooperation with China in trade, finance and other areas and is ready to work together to improve and promote the BRICS mechanism, strengthen the solidarity and independence of the countries of the Global South, and protect international justice.

During the discussion on the Ukrainian crisis, Wang Yi called on both countries to continue to maintain contacts and make joint efforts to build greater consensus among states in the Global South on achieving a ceasefire and promoting dialogue through the Friends of Peace Group to advance a political settlement. –0–
