GAZA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Israeli airstrikes and shelling killed 35 Palestinians, at least 12 of whom were waiting for humanitarian aid, in the Gaza Strip on Monday, Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bazal said.

He said 11 Palestinians were killed when Israel shelled their homes in the Shujaiya area in eastern Gaza City, five Palestinians were killed when Israel shelled a group of people in the At-Tawam area in the northwest of the city, and two more Palestinians were killed in the Beit Lahiya area in the north of the city.

In central Gaza, an Israeli airstrike killed three Palestinians in the town of Deir al-Balah, while Israeli army shelling killed nine Palestinians and wounded at least 50 others while they were waiting for food near a US-run aid distribution center.

In southern Gaza, two Palestinians were killed in Israeli shelling of the Kizan al-Najjar area south of Khan Yunis, he said, noting that two people, including a woman, were killed and more than 20 were wounded when the Israeli army fired on a group of Palestinians near an aid distribution point in northern Rafah, and another woman was killed near an aid distribution center in Khan Yunis.
