Applications are still being accepted for the Moscow Mayor's hackathon "Leaders of Digital Transformation", where participants will have to solve one of 20 problems of the capital's departments and large companies. This year Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection Moscow proposed developing a system for quickly assessing the condition of urban green spaces using computer vision and artificial intelligence.

Monitoring the condition of green spaces is moving to a new level thanks to digital solutions. The experience of dendrologists is now complemented by automated data analysis. Computer vision technologies and artificial intelligence help to promptly identify hazardous trees. The system being developed will be able to conduct predictive analytics to assess the condition of plants based on photographs.

The innovative approach will speed up monitoring and increase its efficiency, allowing for timely response to changes in the condition of the city’s green spaces.

"Trees play a key role in the urban environment: they clean the air, reduce noise levels and regulate the microclimate. Almost half of Moscow's area is green space, and 90 percent of residents have parks and squares within walking distance. We hope that the new development will not only improve the safety of city residents, but will also help to more effectively fulfill one of the city's important tasks – the preservation and expansion of green space," said

Julia Urozhaeva, head of the capital's Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection.
