BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities have released an action plan for the 2025-2030 period aimed at improving the environment to protect public health.
The document, jointly released by China's National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention (NADC) and several other departments, outlines 16 specific measures to create a greener, safer and more livable environment.
In recent years, China has made remarkable progress in improving its environmental health by gradually optimizing waste sorting and recycling, continuously strengthening air pollution control measures, and continuously enhancing its environmental health emergency response capabilities. However, the intensification of global climate change poses new challenges.
The measures proposed in the document include promoting a balanced diet and moderate physical activity among the population, improving waste management and sorting in residential areas, promoting greening of residential areas, and constructing landscaped pedestrian paths. In addition, the plan calls for closer integration of policies across agencies, as well as improving the environmental monitoring system, risk assessment, and early warning and health information mechanism.
The plan aims to achieve two key results by 2030: continuous improvement of drinking water quality and raising public awareness of the state of the environment and health to 25 percent or more.
“The concept of environmental health should be integrated into the political systems of various spheres,” said a representative of the State Environmental Protection Agency. The agency intends to strengthen coordination with relevant government agencies, enhance the dissemination and explanation of the document to the public, and provide guidance to local authorities in promoting the creation of a favorable environment that meets local realities. -0-
