This year the promotion "Movie Night" celebrates its 10th anniversary. In anticipation of the holiday, the Active Citizen project andcinema chain "Moskino" prepared special vote. Residents will choose their favorite Russian films that were shown at Moskino venues from 2016 to 2024. A total of 18 films are presented for voting. Among them are the sports drama Legend No. 17, the poignant film Battalion about women's units that fought for the Fatherland in World War I, and Challenge, filmed in Earth orbit. The first contender for participation in the anniversary program "Movie Nights"— the film "Legend No. 17". It was shown as part of the very first event in 2016. Nikolai Lebedev's feature film (2012) tells the story of Valery Kharlamov's rise and the historic victory of his compatriots in the USSR-Canada Super Series in 1972.
The second candidate is "Battalion" by Dmitry Meskhiev (2014). The film is dedicated to the heroism of Russian women volunteers who stood up to defend the Fatherland in World War I. Viewers will see how the courage and patriotism of ordinary Russian women manifested itself in the most difficult conditions of wartime.
"Cinema Night 2017": the feat of the Panfilov soldiers and a space breakthrough
"Active Citizens" will choose which film from the 2017 "Cinema Night" program will be included in the anniversary program. It could be the war drama "Panfilov's 28" (Kim Druzhinin, Andrey Shalyopa, 2016) about the legendary feat of the soldiers of the 316th Rifle Division under the command of General Ivan Panfilov in November 1941. The film recreates the events of the heroic battle at the Dubosekovo junction, where 28 soldiers stopped the advance of German tanks on Moscow.
The film will compete with the creation "Time of the First" by director Dmitry Kiselev (2017) – a dramatic story about the first manned spacewalk in 1965. The plot centers on the feat of cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyaev, who encountered an emergency situation during the historic mission of the Voskhod-2 spacecraft.
"Cinema Night 2018": The Birth of the T-34 Tank and the Battle for Leningrad
Voters will also determine which film from Cinema Night 2018 will be included in the 2025 program. Viewers will have to choose from films dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.
The film "Tanks" by director Kim Druzhinin (2018) is an adventure war drama about engineer Mikhail Koshkin, who, on the threshold of war with Nazi Germany, develops a prototype of the innovative T-34 tank. To prove the uniqueness of the combat vehicle, Koshkin and his team set off to Moscow in tanks under their own power. But soon the run turns into an unpredictable race, where off-roading becomes the lesser of two evils.
And in the drama “Frontier” by Dmitry Tyurin (2017), businessman Mikhail is transported from the present to the past – to the banks of the Neva, where the battles for Leningrad took place in 1941-1942.
"Cinema Night 2019": an action movie and a bright comedy
"Cinema Night 2019" combined two different genres – action and comedy. The Russian-Serbian film "Balkan Frontier" by director Andrey Volgin (2019) is based on the events of 1999 in Kosovo. According to the plot, a Russian special forces group receives an order to take control of a strategically important airfield and hold it until reinforcements arrive.
Another film presented during the Cinema Night 2019 event was Policeman from Rublyovka. New Year's Mayhem by Ilya Kulikov (2018). This is a humorous story about how on New Year's Eve a police station is under threat of closure. To save the situation, the main character and his colleagues decide to rob a bank, but everything does not go according to plan.

Muscovites will vote for their favorite film of the "Cinema Night 2021", which will be included in the program of the campaign in 2025. Users will have to choose between an amazing story of friendship between a boy and a dog based on real events and a disaster film about the heroism of Russian firefighters. Thus, according to the plot of "Palma" by Alexander Domogarov Jr. (2020), a shepherd dog named Palma remains at the airport after her owner has flown away. She waits for him day after day, until one day a boy who has lost his mother appears in her life.
The disaster film Fire by Alexey Nuzhny (2020) centers on a team of firefighters who become the only hope for people in trouble. They find themselves in the middle of a fire in Karelia that could destroy an entire village. The film includes real footage of forest fires in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
"Cinema Night 2022": a comedy drama about the power of love and the story of a grand chess confrontation
"Active citizens" will have to choose which film, broadcast as part of the "Cinema Night – 2022" campaign, will appear on Moskino screens again this year. The plot of the comedy fantasy by Alexey Nuzhny "Couple from the Future" (2021) centers on a husband and wife who want to separate after 20 years of marriage. They accidentally end up in the past, on the very day they decided to get married. Now the couple from the future decides to separate their younger selves, but the young people defend their love.
Alexey Sidorov's sports drama World Champion (2021) tells the story of the match for the world championship title, which took place in the Philippines in 1978 between the current record holder Anatoly Karpov and grandmaster Viktor Korchnoi, who emigrated from the USSR several years earlier.
Cinema Night 2023: The world's first film shot in space and the story of a Soviet officer's heroism
The famous “Challenge” (Klim Shipenko, 2023) may appear on the screens of “Cinema Night 2025”. The world’s first film partially shot in orbit tells the story of a female surgeon who goes to the International Space Station to save the life of an astronaut. She will have to overcome her uncertainty and fears, and also perform a complex operation in zero gravity.
The action of "The Righteous" by Sergei Ursulyak (2023) takes place in 1942, during the Great Patriotic War. Red Army officer Nikolai Kiselev receives an order to take over 200 Jews from the occupied Belarusian lands behind the front line – the elderly, women and children who escaped the German massacre. The exhausted people, who have lost their relatives and experienced incredible horror, have to walk hundreds of kilometers along forest paths to escape.
"Cinema Night 2024": Rethinking Kir Bulychev's Story and the History of Soviet Female Pilots
The city residents will have to decide which film will be included in the program of the event this year. The first contender is the science fiction film "One Hundred Years Ago" by director Alexander Andryushchenko (2024), based on the story of the same name by Kir Bulychev about the adventures of Alisa Selezneva and Kolya Gerasimov in different worlds.
"Air" by Alexey German Jr. (2023) tells about the events on the Leningrad Front in 1942. A unit of young female pilots arrives at a mixed aviation regiment. They have to master the art of aircraft combat.
Voting prepared the project "Active Citizen" and the capital Department of Culture.
Users of the project will be able to take part in the survey "Active Citizen" with standard or full account on the mos.ru portal. Participants will be awarded points for the city loyalty program "A Million Prizes". They can be used to obtain goods and services, including discounts in stores, pharmacies, cafes and restaurants. "Active citizens" also donate points to charity, top up their Troika transport card account and the "Parking of Russia" app.
Project "Active Citizen" has been operating since 2014. During this time, more than seven million people have joined it, and more than seven thousand votes have been held. Every month, 30 to 40 decisions are implemented in the city. The project is being developed by the State Institution "New Management Technologies" and the capital Department of Information Technology.
