URUMQI, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — A cargo plane carrying 50.6 tonnes of light industry goods including clothes and bags departed from Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to Urgench, Uzbekistan, on Monday, marking the successful completion of the first flight on the international cargo route.
According to the customs service of Tianshan Airport in Urumqi, this air route is the second full-fledged air route for cargo transportation between China and Uzbekistan. According to the schedule, it will be operated by the airline from Uzbekistan “My Freighter” twice a week.
Liu Jingyi, deputy head of customs at Urumqi Tianshan Airport, noted that the opening of this route will further improve the logistics channel between China and Uzbekistan and provide enterprises with more diverse transportation options.
Earlier, airport operator Xinjiang Airport Group announced that Urumqi Tianshan International Airport has expanded its international cargo air service network to 34 routes, linking 19 countries in Central and West Asia, Europe and Africa. The airport is expected to serve a total of 40 international cargo routes by the end of this year. -0-
